You may have noticed that on January 5th, Mercury went retrograde. I certainly felt it. And it looks like everyone around me has too. It has been tech problems galore.
Mercury rules things like communications, clear thinking, travel, truth and a lot of business related areas such contracts, negotiations, research, buying and selling but when it’s in the retrograde phase, those very things start to go wrong. Mercury Retrograde is famous for all sorts of tech issues (cell phones, computers, printers…), communication problems (written and oral), misunderstandings, arguments, delays and things (cars, appliances, computers…) breaking down. So basically the complete opposite of Mercury.
Usually, Mercury is retrograde for about 3 weeks at a time and Mercury Retrograde occurs 3-4 times a year. And lucky us, we are in for 4 retrogrades in 2016 on the following dates:
- January 5th 2016 (Aquarius) – January 25th 2016 (Capricorn)
- April 28th 2016 – May 22nd 2016 (Taurus)
- August 30th 2016 – September 21st 2016 (Virgo)
- December 19th 2016 (Sagittarius) – January 8th 2017 (Capricorn)
Since locking ourselves away during each retrograde period is kinda out of the question because life doesn’t stop for Mercury Retrograde, we can definitely take steps to make it more manageable and less stressful. For example, if you absolutely must sign a contract, read and reread it, check it, double check it, triple check then check it again.
A few years ago I worked with a real estate agent who had a client who wanted to sell her house. They got an offer, the 2 sides negotiated they reached an agreement, they opened a 6 or 8-week escrow. But when the end of escrow came about, Mercury was Retrograde and the woman refused to sign the final paperwork. She delayed it 4 or 5 days till the retrograde was over.
But like everything else, there is a silver lining to Mercury Retrograde. For one thing, it’s not a time for doing but a time for being. We are usually always so busy doing a million things a day. We never really slow down and stop to smell the proverbial roses. Enter Mercury Retrograde. It forces us to slow down. It forces us to take time for introspection, for reevaluating things in our life, releasing what no longer serves us. One way to lessen the hiccups of these 3 weeks is to be very conscious of scheduling regular time daily to do the inner work, to be alone to think, to review and reevaluate the things that aren’t working, the things that we have outgrown and to release them. If you do that voluntarily, you will find that you’ll have less issues, less glitches during Mercury Retrograde.
So what’s it going to be? Will you fall victim to Mercury’s retrograde or will you come out of it more centered, more connected to you and more free?
