I like to start my mornings off with a walk, a 60-minute walk to be exact. In a perfect world, I would walk every single morning, rain or shine, no excuses, no distractions, no BS. But since we don’t live in a perfect world, I don’t walk every single morning. There’s a lot of hitting the snooze button, “Ooooooh it’s too cold” (though I’ve walked in 27 degree weather and I’m talking Fahrenheit), “I have a big day ahead of me today and I need to save my energy” (total BS because walking actually energizes me) and then there’s that rare moment of complete honesty when I just say “Ooooooooooooooooooh hell no! I’m just gonna be lazy today”.
Here’s another rare moment of complete honesty: those excuses come up a lot more than I care to admit. After all, I never said I was perfect!
But on those mornings when I DO go on my walk, I know I will get “rewarded” for not giving in to the excuses and doing what I know to be good for me. My reward usually comes in the form of a penny (once I found 3 pennies) on the ground at some point during my 3-mile walk. It never fails. It’s become like a game between me and God (Source, the Universe, Infinite Intelligence or whatever you want to call it).
Well a few days ago, I woke up determined, got dressed and headed out the door all the while shutting down all the thoughts coming up that wanted nothing more than to get me back into bed (or Facebook). And during my walk I kept looking for my penny. I knew it was going to be there and there was no way I was going to miss it. So my eyes were peeled to the ground the whole way. I was about 3 doors away from my home on my way back when I suddenly heard “STOP! GO BACK”! And my first reaction was “Wait! WHAAAAT”? But I know better than to question my intuition so I turned around and started walking back and right there, just a couple of steps from where I had turned, I found it! No, NOT the penny! THE DIME!!!! I found a dime. My first dime ever (I guess I got a raise). Just because I listened and didn’t question.
My question to you today is: What gifts are you ignoring just because they don’t look the way you expect them to?
